Try Boating Without Owning a Boat in Chichester Harbour

Membership-based access to electric boats, RIBs, kayaks and paddleboards

Boating has always been a big part of life here in Chichester Harbour – and for many, owning a boat is a hugely rewarding experience. But it’s not for everyone. For some, the time, costs, or logistics involved in boat ownership don’t quite fit with the way they want to enjoy the water.

That’s where Northshore Boat Club comes in.

Launching this May from our home at Northshore Boatyard in Itchenor, the club offers a flexible, membership-based way to get afloat – without the long-term commitment of ownership.

A simple way to get on the water

Members will have access to a managed fleet that includes electric boats, as well as powerboats, RIBs, kayaks, and paddleboards. The electric boats – a Mana 23 and a Picnic 18 – offer a completely different kind of experience: quiet, clean, and effortless.

One early user – a seasoned sailor – summed it up this way:

“It’s a bit like that magical moment when you’ve hoisted the sails and cut the engine – except this time, the engine’s still on… you just can’t hear it.”

It’s a fitting comparison. While Northshore Boat Club doesn’t offer sailing boats, the electric models in the fleet create that same quiet, low-impact experience – perfect for exploring the harbour at a gentler pace.

Memberships are intentionally limited to ensure good availability and a personal experience. The club runs seasonally from April to November, and your all-inclusive fee covers servicing, storage, and maintenance. The only additional cost is fuel – making things straightforward, with no surprises.

For locals, by locals

At its core, Northshore Boat Club is about helping more people make the most of the harbour – especially those living right on its doorstep. Whether you’re new to boating or just looking for a more flexible way to enjoy the water with family and friends, this is about keeping things easy, enjoyable, and close to home.

Two clubs, one shared goal

You might have seen that Chichester Boat Club has also recently relocated to Northshore, now making use of our Lift and Launch service. Their model offers shared access to a single boat with a small group of fellow members – a great option for those who like consistency without the hassle of full ownership.

Northshore Boat Club takes a different approach. Rather than sharing one boat, members can book from a fleet of vessels, depending on the kind of day they’re planning – whether it’s a paddle through the creeks, a powerboat trip with friends, or a quiet cruise on an electric boat.

Together, these clubs offer more choice for local boaters. Different models. Different benefits. The same shared goal: to help more people enjoy time on the water.

The aim is to strengthen Northshore’s role as a place where boating, local skills, and community life come together.
